Trade training centres
in schools a win for Western Sydney
NSW Business Chamber
Western Sydney has welcomed the Federal Government’s $13 million funding of two
Trades Trading Centres in Western Sydney as a win for the Western Sydney
businesses community who have been hampered by a lack of local trade skills.
“We have been campaigning
for several years for the Federal Government to boost trade skills development
in Western Sydney,” said Paul Brennan, President of NSW Business Chamber
Western Sydney.
“This funding announcement
will help take the pressure of Western Sydney businesses that have had a tough
time finding and keeping trained staff in industries like automotive,
mechanical, construction, electrical, engineering and hospitality.”
Mr Brennan said that the
NSW Business Chamber had lobbied both the Howard Government and the Rudd
Government to deliver these new training centres in Western Sydney. The
goal is to ensure apprentices and trainees can be developed through the school
system and trade centres with Western Sydney employers then hiring these valuable
skilled people.
“Our local MP, David
Bradbury should be commended for taking up the case for creating trade training
centres in Western Sydney and for getting the Federal Government to deliver
those centres.
“These centres will provide
more options for students to take up careers that they might not have otherwise
considered and allow Western Sydney businesses that are dependent on these
skills to grow and provide more jobs for local residents.
