SuperCross
leaves Parramatta crowds screaming for more!
On Saturday 8th November the dazzling performance by The Super X Australasian SuperCross Championship
riders at Parramatta Stadium proved the fight to keep this inaugural event at
Parramatta was worth it.
Our beloved local footy stadium was transformed from
the pristine green turf of a football pitch, to an electrifying dirt track for
an historic night of SuperCross. Bringing the crowd of over 15,000 to their
feet, with the international debut of the “survival” format bringing the crowd
of over 15,000 to their feet, at the first night race of the Super X
championship.
World Champion
Chad Reed, pictured, once again found himself on top of the podium, but had to fight for it
against current Australian SuperCross champion Daniel Reardon who finished
second
“I had a lot of
fun out there tonight. The track was really tight so each start was really
important to make sure I didn’t get stuck back in the pack. I felt good out
there though and it is so good to see such an awesome crowd that got right
behind the racing,” said World Champion Reed summing up his thoughts on the
first Parramatta Stadium-held event
The
Australasian Freestyle Motocross Championship also kept the crowd entertained
with young Kiwi sensation, Levi Sherwood, once again impressing the judges with
his unique combinations to take the win.
The Chamber’s
Executive Officer, Paula Roden, who attended the event, said that it was a great
family event full of exciting atmosphere. The Super X Australasian SuperCross
Championship is a fabulous event for Parramatta and The Chamber look forward to
it becoming a must attend annual event.
Early
indications are that the event was also a big win for business in Parramatta
with favourable trading reports coming from the city’s hotel, restaurants, pubs
and tourist attractions. With the hosting of such economically-viable events
becoming increasingly subject to competition among potential host cities, the
successful launch of Parramatta Stadium as a venue for The Super X
Australasian SuperCross Championship represents a favourable long-term
opportunity for our city.
