What is good for
Western Sydney is good for NSW
Newly installed NSW opposition leader John Robertson has
followed Premier Barry O'Farrell's lead and taken on the role of shadow
minister for Western Sydney. This Chamber has, for some time now, decried the low
priority given to Western Sydney and in particular the North West sector. Now
it appears that the recent landslide victory to the coalition has made it as
clear as only voting can, that both parties are wise to heed those who lobby
for Western Sydney.
Taking the economy of Western Sydney for granted and not having
a specific and focused plan for the region will ultimately flow over into
taking the people for granted. While the Chamber enjoyed a very good working
relationship with local members of the previous government, former Premier Rees
and Minister Borger, what was needed was a whole of government approach.
Now it appears that the new Premier is determined to look at big
picture Western Sydney and an "energetic" opposition leader will be making a contribution
to any debate on what is best for the region.
This is indeed very good news; for everyone. What is good for
Western Sydney is good for NSW.
