Parramatta City Council in
partnership with Auburn Council is developing a Sustainable Business Program -
an innovative program for business sustainability in the Silverwater and
Camellia industrial areas.
Funded through a NSW Environmental
Trust grant, the Duck River Catchment Sustainable BusinessProgram
will facilitate practical solutions for businesses to implement environmentally
sustainable business practices.
"The Camellia and Silverwater
industrial precincts provide significant and valuable resources to the NSW
economy and society, however valuable changes can be made to significantly
reduce the production of waste, water use, increase recycling and prevent the
pollution of Duck River," said Amanda Carroll Environmental Planner, Auburn
Council.
This program is designed to assist
in addressing environmental challenges, facilitate sustainable businesses
practices, increase ownership of the local environment and develop networks to
increase capacity between the businesses.
"The Sustainable Business Program
offers a one-stop-shop for businesses interested in doing their bit for the
local community and environment," said Wendy Read - Project officer, Parramatta
City Council.
"Being a sustainable business not
only means being concerned with cost savings, it is an opportunity to respond
to the increasing community expectation to be a responsible corporate citizen.
It allows for the development of new technology and innovation, as well as
improved reputation and local business networks," she said.
Both Councils have also partnered
with the Department of Environment and Climate Change to offer the
Sustainability Advantage Program and Energy Efficiency for Small Business
Program. Sydney Water will also join the program through the Every Drop Counts
Business Program offering water audits for small to medium sized businesses
within the LGA.
Council is currently accepting
new registrations from businesses within the Silverwater and Camellia Duck
River Catchment area. Please contact Wendy
