The Annual Lady Mayoress
Cup 20/20 Cricket Bash between Parramatta City Council and Parramatta Chamber
of Commerce was held on Sunday 29 August 2010.
Thanks to the Rose and Crown Hotel, the Chamber team looked
like a team even if our playing didn't. Cricket
great, Doug Walters, conducted the toss and both teams were well served by the
umpires from the Parramatta District Cricket Club.
The chamber fielded a team led by President Trevor Oldfield
and companies represented in the team were Westpac South Parramatta, Amadeus
Catering, Vision Personal Training, Phang Legal, Business Clarity, Aussie Immi
Advice and KidsWest. Sadly, Ron Ross from
Snap Printing, was down and out before the game even started. He may be our secret weapon for next
year. How wonderful it was to see mother
& son playing together on the field - Luke & Louise Zajac! Next year, they'll be a force to be reckoned
with.
The Council team was led by Lord Mayor Paul Garrard and
included Councillors Scott Lloyd, Glen Elmore, Prabir Maitra and Michael
McDermott as well as council staff and family.
The only injury of the day to Libby McDermott who played hard and fought
strong!
Although we weren't the winners this year, I think it can be
said that a great game was played and the Chamber only lost by 9 runs! The Council had one up on us in that they
played a game earlier on in the year against Holroyd Council so they were a bit
more practised than we were. Training
begins soon for the 2011 game.
Thank you to Kenneth Ti, Robert Roden, Dominic and
Christopher for jumping in at the last moment and helping us when we were down
a few men.
A special thank you to Roman Dechnicz for cooking up such an
amazing BBQ lunch! This was accompanied
by fantastic salads and desserts provided by Amadeus Catering which were the
talk of the afternoon!
Thank you to Peta McKenzie and the Parramatta District
Cricket Club for doing such a great job of score keeping.
The money raised for
the afternoon was all for a good cause - Prostate Cancer. $1,400 was raised.
Thanks to all players, spectators and helpers. 2011 will be the Chamber's year to reign
supreme!! Keep those bats warmed up for next year's thrashing of the Council!!!
