Early Days
The
first 100 days of a new government usually tell us what we're going to get. The
core "promises" are either addressed or put off in this period and things that
are put off often used as "promises" at the next election. NSW has a new
government and the new Premier's words on the first 100 days are encouraging.
The
incoming Premier has earmarked transport as a focus in the opening days of his
government. Transport is a major issue for Parramatta and its surrounding areas.
There are others too, but transport is probably the most critical and the most
difficult.
That a
fledgling government has vowed to tackle transport head on immediately augurs
well. What remains now is for us to watch closely how the government handles
the multiplicity of issues under the general heading "transport".
The
Chamber will certainly monitor the government's performance on all its
electioneering promises. More importantly, the Chamber stands ready to be of
assistance to the government on all aspects of policy and activity that affect
Parramatta.
The
Chamber has a good record in working with all levels of government and will
play its part in assisting the new Premier and his ministers to carry out the
plans for which they have received a mandate from the people.
