Mobile Vans to Keep the Peace
In any modern city
people gather on a 24/7 basis for work, recreation and entertainment.
Parramatta offers a busy workplace and a busy nightlife, with events an
increasing attraction. It is unfortunate that this concentration of people and
their pursuits also brings with it unacceptable behaviour and indeed crime.
The Chamber is pleased
to welcome the latest in crime prevention and management; "commands on wheels".
These are large vans, fully equipped for the job and include a computer linked
back to the station. The vans can be deployed to trouble spots or on standby at
events. They have the facilities to take offenders back to the station and are
a major improvement over the traditional sedan vehicles.
The presence of mobile
commands will act as a deterrent to most potential troublemakers.
However these vans
have another, more positive purpose. They can, and will be, deployed to connect
to the public. Police liaison with the community is an underrated but vital
part of policing. Too often the police are seen as separate from the community
but in reality they are an integral part of our day to day lives; going about
their business so we can go about ours.
The Chamber is pleased
to see our police getting the resources they need to protect our community.
