A Liveable City
What is a liveable
City? Some suggest it is accessibility, equity and participation which give
substance to the concepts of liveability.
The Quality of life
experienced by the citizens living in a city is tied to their ability to access
infrastructure, food, affordable housing, meaningful employment, green space
and parks.
I believe a liveable City is quality of life,
a standard that meets our expectations, an environment where we successfully
mix our cultures and share our experiences, a safe place of which we our proud.
Now Parramatta can
be such a City, with its amazing history, diverse culture and smorgasbord of cuisines,
entertainment and lifestyle activities. A City which in many ways though is
immature; well overdue for an injection of fine arts, appropriate
infrastructure linking the growth areas of Western Sydney and an entertainment
precinct that give far more diversity and depth utilising areas such as our
River Banks, Parklands and historical sites.
I believe the time
is now for our State and Federal Governments to take a good long look at
Parramatta our second largest CBD, the gateway to Sydney and the hub of Western
Sydney. We have an opportunity to place NSW at the very forefront of the
Australian economy and a model for quality of life; the government that leads
us on that path will be considered the true creators of tomorrow. They will
find the people, business and community organisations ready and willing to
support such initiatives.
