Cultural Festival Defines Parramatta
Few events define a
city and its people more than a cultural festival. Parramatta has long been
acknowledged as being home to the widest mixture of cultures, but being the
home is often an accident; showcasing those cultures is not. Working with,
building on, learning from and celebrating those cultures is what sets a city
apart. This week's Parramasala festival of events will show what a city and its
people can become; a cultural home land for all.
Masala, or "mix", is a more than appropriate suffix for "Parra". That's what
we have and that's what we are building on through our social and business
communities. Artistic visions, performances, cuisine, contemporary and
traditional arts and crafts, entertainers, music and film will combine to make
Parramasala a landmark event on the festival calendar.
Parramatta is the ideal location for such a
great event, not simply because of the multicultural mix of its people, but
because Parramatta has the facilities to provide the forum for such a
spectacular. Parramatta's hotels, theatres, parks, stadium and clubs provide
accommodation and hospitality, staging and entertainment venues. A Council
genuinely committed to cooperation with its communities has closed off part of
Church Street for stalls and street entertainment in a pedestrian friendly
environment.
Wherever you go in
Parramatta this week you will have access to and be part of a wonderful
experience. An experience brought to fruition by a great many people and
organisations, but overall, brought to you by Parramatta; a multicultural city
of festivals.
