River Express up and running!
Sydney Ferries' new River Express service began Monday, 23
November with the first service departing from Parramatta Wharf at
7.00am.
As announced by the Minister of Transport, David Campbell and the Minister
Assisting, David Borger last Wednesday, this new service will provide commuters
in the Parramatta region with an express
ferry service to Sydney during the morning and evening peaks.
The service departs Parramatta Wharf from 7.00am Monday to Friday and is
timetabled to arrive at Circular Quay within 55 minutes. The last River
Express service will depart Circular Quay for Parramatta at 7.00pm. The same
express service also runs from Circular Quay to Parramatta.
The express service will make just one stop at Rydalmere en-route to Circular
Quay.
As part of the timetable, Sydney Ferries has bus services in place between
Parramatta and Rydalmere, when ferry services are affected in the upper section
of the river due to low tides or an overflowing weir at Parramatta.
This is great news for Parramatta residents but for
businesses we need to have a service that will bring people to Parramatta from
the riverside suburbs such as Drummoyne, Abbotsford, Cabarita and Meadowbank. An
effective Parramatta commuter ferry services needs to pick up passengers along
the entire route of the river and bring them to Parramatta one of the nation's
fastest growing city centres.
Having
an integrated transport network is vital to support our city's growth and this
includes an effective, efficient ferry service and we look forward to working
with the State Government to explore ways of improving the service to
Parramatta
