Parramatta Eels Business Promotion Winners Announced
Businesses in Parramatta leapt at the opportunity to transform the
City into a sea of blue and gold by decorating their shop fronts as
part of Parramatta Eels Business Promotion competition.
An initiative of Parramatta City Council, Parramatta Chamber of
Commerce and the Parramatta Football Club, the competition was held to
celebrate the Eels making the 2009 Grand Final, and to cheer the team
on to victory at the game on Sunday 4 October.
Competition winners were announced this morning at a special Eels flag raising ceremony held outside the Parramatta Town Hall.
"The Parramatta Eels Business Promotion Competition was a huge
success with over 100 businesses registering and taking part in this
competition," said Lord Mayor of Parramatta Cr Paul Garrard.
"The judging panel, consisting of Trevor Oldfield, Alan Overton, Ron
Ross, Paula Roden and myself, were very impressed by the creativity of
our local businesses," he said.
The Parramatta Eels Business Promotion Competion winners are:
First prize went to the Parramatta Blood Donner Centre
which has been circulating photographs of their discovery of a true
Eels fan - which has Blue & Gold Blood. They received two tickets
to the Grand Final, a $1000 cash prize and a free full page
advertisement in the Parramatta Advertiser.
Second Prize was awarded to Cafe Lime which is
serving ‘Parra Pancakes' every day this week. They received two tickets
to the NRL Grand Final and a free advertisement in the Parramatta Business Access Magazine.
Third Prize went to El Phoenician Restaurant
which celebrated with blue and gold themed cocktails, decorations,
lighting and staff with blue and yellow nail polish. They received two
tickets to the NRL Grand Final.
Celebrations will continue throughout the city with a live screening
of the Grand Final at Parramatta Stadium on Sunday from 2pm, a Fans and Family Fun Day
to meet and greet the Eels players on Monday, 5 October, from 10am to
2pm and a Street Parade with the players on Tuesday at along Church
Street to the Town Hall from 12.30pm
